Aftenro Home died Monday, May 3, 1999, in St. Mary's Medical Center. She was born in Lithuania and lived most of her life in
Duluth. She was a children's buyer for Oreck's where she worked for 33 years.
She was a member of Temple Israel and Adas Israel and also a member of
Hadassah, Temple Israel Sisterhood and Adas Israel Sisterhood. Bessie had
been a volunteer in the gift shop in St. Mary's Medical Center for 18 years
and was a lifetime member of the Chester Park PTA. Her parents were David and Pearl Borken. Her husband, Sam,
died in 1969 and a brother, Ben Borken, and a sister, Dorothy Witkin, died
previously. Surviving are a son, Howard T. (Barbara) of Duluth; a
brother, Dave (Sylvia) Borken of St. Louis Park, Minn.; sisters Ann Cohen and
Ida Borken, both of Minneapolis; a brother-in-law, Paul Witkin of Superior;
two grandchildren, Andler and Kelsi. Service: 2 p.m. Thursday in Jarvi-Dowd Chapel. Burial in
Adas Israel Cemetery. Family prefers memorials directed to St. Mary's
Foundation Volunteer Fund. Arrangements by Bell Brothers Funeral Directors,
